Kristye-Dudley-Contemporary-Artist-Headshot

Welcome to my studio.

I am Kristye, a contemporary abstract painter, designer, writer, illustrator, and teacher living in Northern Virginia.

I see the figure as a shell for the spirit. I enjoy using impressionistic strokes, featureless faces, and expressive forms to exhibit the universal emotions we all share. I explore nature, life, and the beauty of emotional self-reflection in the world around us. I hope that my work will touch and inspire you.

Here’s Part 3. (Check out 1 & 2 to learn more).
.
The last step. Knowing when the painting is done, can be a tricky thing. Sometimes I hang the work upside down, look at it in a mirror, and blink really fast!😂🤩
.
All in hopes of finding balance in the composition. When the art is dry, I package the artwork in multiple layers of protection in a custom built box.
.
The art is insured, and shipped directly to my customer on or before the agreed date. I may also add in some surprises for my clients as well. For this delivery the was important because it was a surprise birthday gift!
.
It made it on time and we had one happy birthday boy in the end. When it’s all said and done, this is what I love about commissions. Bringing joy into someone’s home through my art.
.
Reach out to me if you would like to work together on a holiday gift. We still have time to make Christmas deliveries! 🎁

Here’s Part 2. (If you want to see how I establish a commission check out the first reel).
.
You may wonder why I request a 50% deposit.
.
There are a two reasons, (1) the cost of materials and (2) the time to complete the work. That is the time to plan, create, and ship the art.
.
During the painting process, I like to stay in contact with my clients. Giving them visual updates of the progress and we can make edits along the way. If we waited until the end, it will be too late in the process.
.
For this painting we initially had sunny alone in a field. I suggested we add Italian poppies and the Alps in the background.
.
I met my clients and her family when we were stationed in Italy together. As military families abroad, our community became our family. I wanted to add a little of that connection to the art. Check out the 3 video for the final stage.

Since I’m talking about commissions, I thought I’d share my process with you. Here is the first part of the behind-the-scenes of my process to create a one of a kind work for you.
.
1. It starts with a consultation. We discuss your ideas, you share inspiration, any deadlines or special events, and I provide the price.
.
2. once approved, I create a quick sketch of the design.
.
3. Once we agree upon a direction, a 50% deposit is made and I begin work on the painting.
.
More on my commission process in the next video. Step 2!

Generally I love to do commissions. Knowing that the work I’m producing already has a home is such an affirming feeling for me as an artist.
.
But, when I am asked to create work that is not in my style, or someone wants me to mimic the work of another artist, I have to decline.
.
Another sticky subject, is that I prefer to stay in a flow. Meaning, if I am creating a body of work, I’d like the commission to be in the same style/materials. It benefits my process and the commission.
.
I am currently available for commissions for the holidays. Message me and we can discuss the details. I’d love to work with you.

I feel like music helps me express myself. I have always been a little hyper, but I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until I was 40! Movement and music are connected to my soul. 🫶🏾💃🏾🎨
